There’s a new Stephen King adaptation on the way, this time coming from Apple’s streaming service, Apple TV Plus: Lisey’s Story. The psychological thriller follows a woman whose famed novelist husband has recently died, as she is haunted by her past and a dangerous stalker.
Earlier today, Apple released a first look at the limited series, which stars Julianne Moore as Lisey Landon and Clive Owen as her husband, Scott.
Pablo Larraín (Ema) directed the eight-episode series, which is also being produced by King (who wrote the script) and J.J. Abrams through his production company, Bad Robot.

The series is set to debut on the platform on June 4th, and as seen in the trailer, we will follow Lisey as she contends with Scott’s absence, even a couple of years after his death. A series of events bring her past back to haunt her: a writer has begun to follow her around, asking to collect his papers, bringing in an obsessed fan named Jim Dooley to help him acquire them, all while Lisey also begins remembering a place that Scott was able to access—a fantastical world that helped inspire his stories.
The novel was inspired in part by an incident in King’s own life, when he was hit by a van in 1999 and almost killed. Upon returning home, he found that his wife Tabitha had rearranged his office, with all of his papers boxed up. It prompted him to think about what would happen to his own papers and books when he eventually died.
Apple acquired the adaptation back in 2019 as part of its push into original content with Apple TV Plus, and part of a further collaboration with Abrams and King (who worked on projects like 11.22.63 and Castle Rock, both for Hulu).
